The compact off-road vehicle, Honda CR-V, has now been available for about 20 years. In 1996 the first generation of the Compact Runabout Vehicle (abbreviation: CR-V) with two different motorization came on the market. Initially it was only available with an automatic gearbox but that soon changed. The distinctive feature of the first generation: the tailgate that opened sidewards with the spare wheel and the camping table in the boot. The second CR-V generation, that came on the market in 2001, finally had a diesel engine which was widely accepted in this country. But it still didn't sell very well in Germany. Due to its technical orientation this CR-V also wasn't suited to difficult off-road driving - in spite of all-wheel drive and the rough treaded Honda CR-V tyres. The traction, on and off the road is dependent on the tyres used anyway. They need the corresponding profile and must be approved for the vehicle. New Honda CR-V tyres are available at mytyres.co.uk. In 2006 the next CR-V generation followed with two petrol and two diesel engines to choose from. It was on the market till 2012. The current generation is offered with a five-speed or a six-speed gearbox. All engines comply with the Euro 5 emission norm.
