Italian manufacturer Pirelli is known for its high performance tyres, with sports-minded motorists having typically formed the majority of its customer base. A few years ago, the launch of the AA-rated Cinturato P7 Blue summer tyre proved that Pirelli had more up its sleeve. The now legally-required EU tyre label gives information about a tyre's noise levels, wet grip and rolling resistance, with scores for latter two criteria being awarded from A (the best) to G. The Cinturato P7 Blue achieved two As, making it both a true wet road specialist and a great fuel saver, since the low rolling resistance decreases consumption. Responsible for this low resistance is a robust carcass that deflects minimally under pressure and minimises energy losses.
The Pirelli Cinturato P7 Blue doesn't just score points for its looks and cost-effectiveness - it also exceeds the standards of safety commonly expected of modern-day tyres. A 2014 test by German magazine "Autobild" placed it far ahead of the competition, with the tyre's excellent handling characteristics, high steering response and short wet and dry braking distances manoeuvring it firmly into first place. Its four longitudinal grooves are effective at evacuating water on wet roads, while the Cinturato P7 Blue's rubber compound also plays a part in its excellent wet road performance. Even distribution of pressure over the entire contact area lengthens the tyre's service life and reduces the rate of wear.
