The VW T3 was produced from 1979 to 1992, with the "3" in its name identifying it as a third-generation VW van (its successor, the T4, was the first generation not to offer rear-wheel drive). The T3 was roomier than its predecessor and boasted rack-and-pinion steering and coil springs on the semi-trailing arm rear axle. While, initially, it was powered by a 50 or 70 HP 4-cylinder carburetter, later engines supplied up to 102 HP.
