The Audi S4 has existed as a sporty version of the A4 since 1991. Though it doesn't quite match the specs of the top-of-the-range RS4 - an estate model boasting 450 horsepower - the S4 still has much to recommend it. The first generation was purchasable with either a 230 or 280 HP engine, the latter of which enabled acceleration to just under 250km/155mph. Both variants were available as a limousine or an Avant. The second series appeared on the market on 1997, with a Biturbo V6 engine that enabled speeds of 250km/155mph - this S4 was the first to be regulated by limitations on top speed. Production of the 344 HP-strong Audi S4 B6 lasted for just two years, while its successor, with an identical motor, was around for four. Though it supplies 333 HP, the motor of the current S4 operates in a more fuel efficient manner than the power engines of its predecessors.
