When the Audi S3 arrived on the scene in 1999, it prided itself on its status as a state-of-the-art A3 - and it still has much to recommend it today. The 210 horsepower (later 225) turbo motor of the first generation enabled the vehicle to scrape the impressive 250km/150mph mark. It was equipped as standard with an all-wheel drive system, electrically adjustable Recaro sport seats, manual six-speed gearbox and xenon headights, while its broad mudguards and side skirts, distinctive tail pipe and roof spoiler left quite the visual impression. The second series, available from 2008, also came in a five-door model and boasted an improved 265 horsepower performance. 2013 saw the introduction of the third generation of S3s, now with 300 horsepower. Regulations governing the limiting of top vehicle speeds to 250km/155mph had long been in place, and the sizable Audi S3 rims and tyres had much to do with keeping this compact car safe on the road.
