From April to October, summer tyres are a recommendable choice for fitting out your vehicle. On both dry roads and moderate weather conditions, your tyres have to meet high demands and safety standards at all times. On that note, summer tyres offer optimal safety performance above +7 Celsius degrees. The compounds used are meant to facilitate good handling and grip, on dry and wet roads alike. Enhanced comfort, longevity and fuel efficacy are other notable benefits. Having the right tyre equipment makes you feel more connected to the road, improving your driving experience.
Summer tyres’ rubber compound is less elastic in comparison with winter tyres’ - at warmer temperatures especially. Hence, rolling resistance and wear are lower. That means you enjoy comfortable driving at lower noise levels. Additionally, summer tyres score better results when it comes to mileage and steering stability, as they are made primarily for the warm season. Another benefit of summer tyres is reduced fuel consumption. Even though summer tyres are designated for all types of vehicles, some are made specifically for performance cars. The enhanced agility and control in contact with the road are unmatched. Additionally, the compounds utilised in summer tyres are uncompromising. That’s why they are made for a specific temperature range.
Summer tyres are developed as all-rounders fitted to the unique weather conditions during the summer months. These tyres are laid out for rides on dry and rain-slicked roads and higher temperatures in particular. To cope with these conditions optimally, summer tyres have:
• ribs,
• tread bars and
• grooves
providing an optimal performance spectrum for summer conditions. All information about a specific summer tyre can be found on its sidewall - such as load index, rim diameter, aspect ratio, size and width.
New summer tyres have a tread depth of 8 mm - any lower depth reduces the wet grip of summer tyres. The minimum legal depth in the UK is 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters of the tread width and around the entire circumference of the tyre. A tread depth that is too low raises the risk of aquaplaning significantly and increases the stopping distance. For safety, comfort and fun, check out summer tyres at mytyres.co.uk.
