Uniroyal rain tyres for summer 2018

07/06/18

Uniroyal rain tyres traditionally provide high protection against aquaplaning. No matter if it’s a subcompact or compact model, a sports car, an SUV or a van, Uniroyal has the right replacement tyres for any type of vehicle. This season, the product range has been expanded yet again to accommodate new vehicles as well. The Uniroyal AllSeasonExpert 2 has joined the line-up available from dealers, while the RainMax 3 makes its debut in the light commercial vehicle/van tyre segment.

New: SSR version of the Uniroyal RainSport 3

Tyres with SSR technology (SSR = Self-Supporting Runflat) have specially developed, reinforced sidewalls. In the event of a loss of pressure, the wheel runs on this reinforcement enabling the driver to continue for a certain distance at low speed. The tyre doesn’t have to be changed at the roadside as it is usually possible to make it to the next workshop. For the summer season 2018, Uniroyal is producing eight tyre sizes with this technology for 16 to 18-inch rims.
In addition to an extremely asymmetrical tread pattern, the specialist RainSport 3 tyre for sporty, high-powered and heavier passenger cars and SUVs also features a bionic refinement in the shape of Shark Skin technology. The tyre developers have transferred the shark skin structure to the longitudinal grooves of the tread, enabling water to be dispersed from the contact patch with virtually no turbulence. With this flow-optimized tread structure, Uniroyal has managed to combine the advantages of asymmetrical and directional tread patterns without having to accept the
drawbacks of either. The result is a solid outer shoulder with good lateral stiffness for high cornering grip and, as a welcome side-effect, low interior noise. At the same time, rolling resistance has also been significantly reduced. The Uniroyal RainSport 3 is available for 14 to 21-inch rims, and with approvals for speeds between 210 and 300 km/h. There are also special SUV sizes with increased load capacity and models with a rim protection rib.

Uniroyal RainExpert 3

In this comfortable rain tyre for subcompacts to mid-range cars and compact SUVs, Uniroyal relies on an asymmetrical tread pattern designed for high water dispersion in the rain that also provides good safety characteristics on dry asphalt. As with its “sporty brother”, the RainSport 3, here too the tyre developers rely on Shark Skin technology. This is joined by a flow-optimized tread structure and a tread compound with low rolling resistance specifically designed for high wet grip. The RainExpert 3 is available for 13 to 18-inch rims, and with approvals for speeds of up to 300 km/h.

New: Uniroyal AllSeasonExpert 2

The successor to the proven AllSeasonExpert offers balanced performance for safe driving in both summer and winter. True to the Uniroyal tradition, the developers kept the main focus on good performance in the wet. Like all recently introduced Uniroyal products, the AllSeasonExpert 2 also makes use of innovative Shark Skin technology. The main differences compared to its predecessor are better performance in the dry and lower rolling resistance, without affecting the tyre’s good braking characteristics on wet and snow-covered roads. The developers tackled the trade-off between dry performance and winter performance with an innovative tread pattern in which the blocks have been reconfigured, while a compact central rib provides additional stability. The sipe concept has also been optimized. The range initially extends over 50 sizes for 13 to 18-inch rims, with approvals for speeds of up to 240 km/h. Many of the products have an XL marking and/or a rim protection rib.

New: Uniroyal RainMax 3

The RainMax 3 is the new rain tyre from Uniroyal for vans and light commercial vehicles. It features a state-of-the-art tread structure for short braking distances on wet and dry roads, combined with high economy. The new light commercial vehicle tyre is available in 24 sizes/load indices for 14 to 16-inch rims, and with speed approvals for up to 210 km/h. The load capacity can be as high as 1,250 kg per tyre (LI 116). The product range covers more than 90 percent of European tyre options – from smaller vehicles like the Opel Combo or Fiat Doblo up to larger light commercial vehicles like the Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter and VW Crafter.

When redesigning this light commercial vehicle tyre, the developers focused on high safety on wet and dry roads and on delivering good economy. More sipes in the tread blocks provide additional grip edges when driving in the wet, while wide tread grooves can take up more water and disperse it sideways through additional lateral grooves. The enlarged contact patch with its tread ribs makes for short braking distances on dry roads and a precision steering response, while so-called handling ribs increase the stiffness of the tread. The developers have also achieved higher mileage and lower fuel consumption by spreading the load evenly in the contact patch and giving the tyre an even wider contour with lower energy losses. Overall, the new RainMax 3 has improved by up to ten percent in terms of wet-weather properties and by six percent on dry handling. At the same time, mileage has increased by five percent and rolling resistance is six percent lower (compared to the proven predecessor model in each case).

Uniroyal

Belgian rubber goods manufacturer Englebert began producing tyres in 1895 and supplied Continental among others. Following a merger with US Rubber in 1958, the company was renamed Uniroyal Englebert. Since 1979, Uniroyal, the firm that invented the rain tyre, has been a European brand of Continental AG in Hanover.
