CEAT, originally established in Turin during the mid-20th century, was a renowned manufacturer of electric cables and car tyres, ranking as the second-largest tyre producer in Italy, right after Pirelli.
The company was founded in the 1920s by Virginio Bruni Tedeschi, the grandfather of film director and actress Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and former model Carla Bruni. Alberto Bruni Tedeschi, Virginio's son, led CEAT from 1938, expanding the company's ventures by opening branches and subsidiaries. In 1958, in collaboration with the TATA Group, Alberto Bruni Tedeschi established CEAT Tyres of India Ltd. In 1972, due to concerns about terrorist threats and kidnappings by the Red Brigades, the Bruni Tedeschi family moved to Paris. Consequently, Alberto sold CEAT to focus on his passion as a composer and artistic director of the Royal Theatre of Turin. The car tyre factory in Turin, located on Via Leoncavallo, was shut down in 1979. Part of the premises was later acquired by the Municipality of Turin, and the CEAT brand became a property of Pirelli.
In 1982, the RPG Group, owned by Indian billionaire Rama Prasad Goenka, took over CEAT Tyres of India Ltd, renaming it to CEAT Ltd in 1990. Today, CEAT stands as one of the foremost automotive tyre manufacturers in India, boasting seven production facilities; six in India and one in Sri Lanka. The company records annual sales surpassing $400 million. The development of CEAT's radial tyre lineup was carried out in close collaboration with Yokohama.
