The version of the Volkswagen Transporter built between 1990 and 2003 has the codename T4. For the first time it was offered with two body lengths and wheelbases. Beyond that the in-line engines were mounted east to west and Volkswagen decided on front wheel drive for the Volkswagen Bus. As a result continuous loading area became possible.
