Toyota has been offering the Yaris, a small car, since 1999. The vehicles for North America and Europe roll from the line in France - there are already more than 2.5 million Yaris. In German it is the Japanese car manufacturer's most successful model. The Yaris Verso - a small MPV, that also came on the market in 1999 was also popular. In the meantime the Verso-S is a model in its own right. The first generation replaced the Toyota Starlet. It was available with two different petrol engines and a diesel engine with 75 bhp. In some places the Yaris TS could be ordered with a 105 bhp petrol engine. As standard all versions were fitted with a five-speed gearbox; but an automatic gearbox was also available. The second generation of the Yaris was available between 2005 and 2011. It presented itself a lot safer than its predecessor and achieved five stars in the Euro NCAP-crashtest. In addition it offered more room in the interior. Besides three petrol and a diesel engine the Yaris TS was once again available; now with 133 bhp. In 2009 the Toyota Yaris II received a lot of negative publicity. At the time the manufacturer recalled one million vehicles because the insulation material in the belt tightener could catch fire. Meanwhile the small car on its Toyota Yaris tyres is once again driving safely on the roads. In the meantime the third generation of the Yaris is on the market. For the first time its is being offered in a hybrid version which has more than 99 bhp. The battery was placed under the rear seat bench, by which the boot-space kept the original size.
