The Ford Kuga replaced the Maverick in 2008. At the start it was manufactured in Saarlouis, meanwhile the production is in Spain. The SUV is based on the Focus and in the second generation it is similar to the Ford Escape which is sold in the USA. Initially the Kuga was only available with a 136 bhp commonrail diesel which was replaced in 2010 by a more powerful engine which could be ordered with 140 or 163 bhp - if wanted combined with the new Powershift double clutch gearbox. In addition in 2008 Ford introduced the V5 petrol engine with 200 bhp. All engines are turbocharged. Customers have a choice between front and all-wheel drive - but not for all versions. A manual six-speed gearbox is fitted as standard. Since 2013 the Ford offers the Kuga in the second generation. It has a larger boot volume and extensive safety equipment. A 1.6 Ecoboost engine is now fitted - this engine is available with front or all-wheel drive and in two power levels (150 or 182 bhp). The turbo-diesel can also be chosen with different driving systems and power levels. The more powerful engines have the option of being ordered with a six-speed automatic - otherwise a six-speed gearbox is fitted.
