The
BMW X3 is the smaller brother of the successful X5
SUV. It was introduced in 2003 and to start with was manufactured in Austria. Here the
Magna Steyr company, which was responsible for the X3 concept, is located. The first generation was on the market till 2010. It has all-wheel drive as standard. At the beginning the X3 had a six cylinder engine with 231 bhp a diesel engine with 204 bhp, this was increased to 218 bhp a year later. At this point in time further engines were offered. Finally the first generation could be had with engines between 143 and 286 bhp which accelerated it to 240 km/h. In 2006 BMW brought out an X5 face-lift with minor optical changes. Since 2010 the second generation of the X5 can be ordered. It rolls from the line in USA and has optional eight-speed automatic which is standard with the most powerful engine. Alternatively a six-speed manual gearbox is available. As an extra a head-up-display is, among other options, available.
