The Audi A6 has been built since 1994 and replaced the Audi 100. At the beginning it was not essentially a new product line, in fact it was an updated Audi 100 C4. However, ten years after being introduced to the market the A6 has established itself as an independent model, has won many awards and has continuously worked its way up the registration statistics. In 2005 it ousted the Mercedes E class from the top spot in the upper medium class where during the previous 30 years nothing had changed. Moreover it was the third generation of the A6 which had been on the market since 2004. As with the previous two product lines it was offered as a limousine and an estate car. In addition there is also the sporty S6 in both body variants and the all-wheel drive Quattro. In the meantime the 4th A6 product line, named C7, is available.
