The Audi A3 has been on the market since 1996. More than 3 million examples of this car, which belongs to the compact class have already been built. The first generation was manufactured until 2003 (in Brazil even up to 2006) - it was based on the VW Golf IV. Initially the A3 was only available in a three door version, a year later the five door version followed. In 2000 Audi introduced a facelift of the A3 which looked very similar to the A4. The second A3 generation could be ordered between 2003 and 2012. It shared the platform with the VW Golf V and was manufactured in Ingolstadt. New engines and the direct shift gearbox (DSG) were available. Besides the three and five door versions Audi now offers, since 2008, a cabriolet version with a soft top. It can be combined with five engine types. Since 2013 the A3 is available as a notch-back variant, in 2014 the new cabriolet was introduced. The third product line had a range of innovations which, above all, affected the technology inside the vehicle. In addition an adaptive cruise control and a lane change assistant are also available.
