The Ford Ka has been built since 1996 and is one of the founders of the sub-compact class. At the start it was manufactured with three doors, based on the Fiesta and had enough room inside for four persons. The production of the first generation was in Brazil and Spain. At market introduction there was only a 1.3 litre engine with two outputs ( 50 or 60 bhp). In 2002 this was replaced by a new engine that had 60 or 69 bhp and complied with the Euro 4 emission norm. From 2003 the SportKa with 95 bhp was available. The engines were combined with a five-speed gearbox. The first generation was produced for 12 years - during which there were several face-lifts which were mainly technical. This was necessary because the Ka was prone to failure. The second generation of the Ka has been on sale since 2009 and like the Fiat 500 is based on the Fiat Panda. It is produced together with the Fiat 500 in Poland, differs optically and in some technical aspects. The motorisations on the other hand are similar: There is a 1.2 litre petrol engine with 69 bhp and an average consumption of about five litres for a 100 km and a 75 bhp diesel engine that consumes one liter less than the petrol engine - it was, however, only available till 2013. In between times the Ford Ka was the best small car in the ADAC defect statistic - a lot has been achieved since the first generation.
